Koh Phi Phi is PARTY CENTRAL. Seriously, drunk people & flying fire batons left and right at night. I don’t have a ton of recommendations for Koh Phi Phi because it’s definitely a choose-your-own-adventure island, but here’s a quick recap of our trip ๐
MUST DO:
- Drink buckets (literally buckets) of alcohol and watch fire dancing on the beach
- Hike up to the Phi Phi viewpoint
RECAP:
We took a bus from Khao Sok to Krabi, and then a ferry over to Koh Phi Phi. Koh Phi Phi is crazy. We were excited to relax on the beach after our adventure in Khao Sok, but this island is far from relaxing. PARTY. CENTRAL.
However, we booked 2 bungalows at the Cobble Beach Hotel, which is on the far end of the island. This was a few blocks down from the crazy, so we had our little oasis. After a somewhat stressful arrival to Koh Phi Phi, we hopped into the pool and grabbed some Chang beers. All our worries washed away. Every time I look at this picture, Iโm transported back to this complete feeling of serenity. Highly recommend this hotel.
That night, we decided to go out and experience Koh Phi Phi for what itโs famous for: the party scene. Grab a bucket of alcohol โ literally, they give you a whole bucket of whatever type of drink you want โ and watch some fire dancers. The fire dancers honestly have no spatial awareness or care for tourists. We saw at least 3 tourists get hit by a flying fire stick that night. Nobody cares though, because everyone is drunk! Go to Slinky’s for a good time.
The next day, we went scuba diving in the early morning. That was rough. We went on two dives. Iโve only gone scuba diving once before in Tulamben, Bali, and that was agreat experience. The clarity wasnโt great this day โ we saw a few fish and hammerhead sharks, but it was really hard to see! I would definitely go to another island to scuba dive, but we still had a ton of fun.
TIP: Eat a very, very light meal (i.e. a banana or any other fruit) at least an hour before scuba diving. Take seasickness pills beforehand if you get nauseous on a boat.
Later, we laid out on the beach and hung out in the water. Casual beach day with a side of some beach planks ๐
After several hours, we hiked up the Phi Phi viewpoint, which had a beautiful view of the island. Highly recommend it for sunset.
Overall, Koh Phi Phi was a lot of fun. Definitely not a relaxing beach by any means, but extremely fun with the right group of friends ๐
